Drinking Water and Sanitation in Arnakot Nepal
Donation: €37.500
EARTH Water and ISS Catering have been working together since 2013. In addition to the EARTH Water donation, a fixed amount per bottle is donated annually on behalf of ISS to a drinking water project. This time, the contribution was used to support the Unica Foundation project.
Arnakot is located in an inhospitable area in Nepal, a town with approximately 1500 inhabitants that until recently had no access to clean drinking water and suffered from poor hygienic conditions. The inhabitants have three water points that only provide partial water. On average, people travel more than 2.5 hours twice a day to fill a jug with water.
With this project, a new drinking water system has been installed in collaboration with local companies and the Nepalese Red Cross, and 176 toilets have been installed at the same time to improve hygiene.
High-quality pumps, a 19-kilometre pipeline network and 41 taps will provide the population with fresh and safe drinking water. The water is pumped up from a low-lying source approximately 400 metres. By installing transformers, 35 poles and 4000 metres of cable, a hydroelectric power station one kilometre away can be used as a power supply for the pumps.
